At Asahi India Glass Ltd (AIS) the largest glass company in India, environmental preservation and the implementation of corporate social responsibility activities do not just represent a sensitive conscience but a sound business sense. It is recognised that sustainable business development includes environmental and social considerations, which are essential parts of long-term business survival and growth.

Prior to 2004, AIS undertook a range of social and community development programmes that protected the interests of communities in the vicinity of the manufacturing plants. In the year 2004, these were brought under a common umbrella - Integrated Community Development Programme (ICDP) which is now designed, administered, and monitored by Youthreach.
The objectives of the Integrated Community Development Programme are as follows
  • Providing quality services in an equitable and efficient manner
  • Creating leadership within the community, by strengthening community institutions.
  • Developing community participation through promotion of volunteerism and cost-sharing.
  • Institutionalising the interface between community institutions and the govt for sustainability.
Intervention Areas
With funding from AIS, Youthreach has designed and managed interventions for over 3 lakh people from 120 villages surrounding AIS’s manufacturing plants in Rewari in Haryana and Roorkee in Uttaranchal. The interventions include education, health, vocational training, micro-enterprise development, water, sanitation and governance.
