'If I were rain'

If I were rain

a photographic book produced in December 2003, is a testimonial tribute to the spirit of India's children who live in very difficult circumstances of poverty exploitation and exclusion. The book creates and provides a platform for the children to speak for themselves for the first time to a wide national and international audience. The book 'is a large awareness effort that basically addresses all three focus areas (awareness, civil society engagement and fund raising. Sensitisation happens on every page and options for participation are clearly listed at the end of the book.

After the success of the first print of 4000 copies we decided to go into a second and third reprint. If I were rain' received tremendous acclaim and touched the hearts of people nationally and internationally. To date, approximately 10,000 copies of the book have been sold through leading book stores, retail outlets, corporates and individuals and the total amount raised from the sale of the book is 38 lakhs approximately. The money from the sale of the first 4000 copies has been dispersed to our partner organisations namely Butterflies, Navjyoti, Karm Marg, Ankur and Salaam Baalak Trust. All of them work with disadvantaged children (either within communities or street and run a ways) and the funds raised were used to further their programmes, in the area of education, health and vocational training. The funds from the subsequent sale of books have been disbursed to other partner organisations to further their programmes, in the areas of education, health and vocational training.
