The goal of the Y.E.S programme in India is to enhance the employability potential of disadvantaged youth in the age group of 16-24 who are on the threshold of acquiring job oriented skills and eventually entering the job market. As part of the YES programme, our objective is to ensure that at least 60% of the participating youth get placed or set up their own enterprises.

Since Youthreach’s partners offer vocational training to disadvantaged youth, the two gap areas that undermined the chances of the youth in finding jobs were 1) Life Skills and 2) Spoken English for the Workplace. Since Youthreach was already implementing the successful Udaan Life Skills Programme in India, and had a field-tested model and curriculum, under the Y.E.S programme this curriculum would be taken to new partners. In response to the need for Spoken English, under the YES programme Youthreach commissioned Ran Research for the development of an interactive curriculum to address the need for spoken English at the workplace.

In the pilot phase of the programme (June to Dec 08),  561 youth who had enrolled for the programme, 273 have been placed, 198 have opted for higher studies and 34 youth have dropped out. 84% of the youth have been productively engaged in jobs and in higher education.

Youthreach has now taken the  YES programme to two new States-Rajasthan and Punjab and continued with its existing partnerships in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and National Capital Region of Delhi and is reaching out to 2300 youth.
