Health Initiative

City Walk

Youthreach organised a city walk around the area of Paharganj and the New Delhi Railway Station for the employees of Baxter. The city walk is a guided tour, led by former street children who have grown up in Salaam Baalak Trust, and provides an insight into the lives of these children and an opportunity for them to improve their communication and speaking skills.

Painting Workshop

Youthreach organised a painting workshop with the employees of DSM pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. Fifteen employees of Baxter got together to paint the walls of the Arushi Shelter Home which the children thoroughly enjoyed. Youthreach also organised an exposure visit for employees of YUM foods to the shelter home. Twelve employees from YUM spent the day with the girls, played games and entertained them with stories, films and a lunch.

Eye Camp

Youthreach and AIS, in collaboration with Icare, conducted an eye camp in Rewari. Over 160 people from nearby village of Patuhera attended. Seventeen cataract surgeries were conducted at the Icare hospital.

Night Walk

Members of Rotary Next Club participated in the Jamghat night walk. The walk aims at generating awareness about street children living in Delhi and helping them to live a life of their choice in a healthy way. The walk was organised around Jama Masjid and the Old Delhi area. More than 50 people attended the walk and the Rotary Next club also sponsored pizzas for the all the children.

Book Release

The Secret Abode of Fireflies was released on 2010 at the India Habitat Centre. Over 350 people, including those from the media, attended. Editor Nanni Singh spoke to the audience about the pressing environmental issues of Delhi. This was followed by a music concert by Suchet Malhotra. Featured in the Hindustan Times, The Times of India, Midday and the Asian Age, the event was commemorated by readings from the book. The readings were repeated at similar events at the India International Centre

Photo Exhibition

An exhibition comprising of 12 images from the book ‘The Secret Abode of Fireflies was put together for the annual IIC Experience – a festival of arts which centered on the theme of ‘Forest’. Over 1000 people attended the exhibition which got pride of place at the main gate of IIC.

Workshops and Trainings

Youthreach conducts regular trainings and workshops for its partner organisations both at a national and international level. The objective of these trainings and workshops is to build skills and techniques of the trainers in the areas of Life Skills, Spoken English, Career Counseling and Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health. more
